Vegetables, fruits, and grains are normally low in
fat and have no cholesterol.  Most are great sources
of dietary fiber, complex carbs, and vitamins. 
The American Heart Association recommends that you
eat foods that are high in complex carbs and fiber.

Below are some tips for making healthy food choices:

-  Coconut is high in saturated fat, while olives
are high in monounsaturated fats and calories.  You
should use these items sparingly to avoid getting
too many calories from fat.

-  When vegetable grains are cooked, saturated fat
or cholesterol is often added.  For example, egg
yolks may be added to bread or even pasta.

-  Processed, canned, or preserved vegetables may
also contain added sodium.  With some people, too
much sodium (salt) may lead to high blood pressure.
There are some food companies that are actually
canning vegetables with less salt.  You can look
for these in the market area or choose fresh and
even frozen vegetables.

-  Nuts and seeds tend to be high in calories and
fat, although a majority of the fat is polyunsaturated
or monounsaturated.  There are some varieties,
macadamie nuts for example, that are also high in
saturated fat.

Foods that are high in soluble fiber are a great
choice as well.  Examples include oat bran,
oatmeal, beans, peas, rice bran, barley, and
even apple pulp.

Ukraine freezes $7.5 million in Web Money-linked companies' bank accounts

11:25 13/06/2013 KIEV, June 13 (RAPSI) - The Ukrainian tax authorities have frozen $7.5 million held in the bank accounts of local companies which are part of the WebMoney payment system, the Ukrainian Ministry of Incomes and Fees said in a statement.
The tax authorities had already searched the company's Kiev office and revealed a high number of violations committed by the company which acts as the guarantor of the payment system's work. In particular, the company failed to coordinate its work with the national Bank of Ukraine.
The authorities have seized a large amount of computer equipment which was used for the system's operation. "Over 60 million Hryvnas ($7.5 million) held in the bank accounts of companies which were part of in the illegal system have been frozen," the ministry said.
An investigation is underway and the case will be forwarded to court once it has been completed.
WebMoney representatives have not been available for comment.

When we ignore those signals and still compel them to work, those organs break down. That is why periodic fasting is necessary. Refrain from eating for one complete day. This gives a rest to your digestive organs and also helps in the elimination of wastes from your body. Regular fasting allows a person to gain extra time for intellectual or spiritual pursuits. Fasting is not for hermits in a cave, but is a sensible practice that anyone can practice.

5. Wash with cool water before going to bed

As mentioned above, proper sleep is essential for the maintenance of health. If you wash your important motor and sensory organs (hands, arms, eyes, legs, mouth, genitals) before sleep using cool water, this will relax you and prepare you for deep sleep.

6. Perform meditation on a regular basis

Your body is linked to your mind. Many of the diseases of this era are psychosomatic. Stress and anxiety take their toll on our physical health. Meditation is a mental exercise which, among other things, allows you to detach yourself from the worries of life. Learn a simple technique and do it regularly.

7. Get up early every day

Once again the old proverb, “Early to bed, early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise.” I don’t know if it will make you wealthy, but it will certainly make you healthy. Your body needs just enough sleep, not too much and not too little.

Living With Christopher

Mark Haddon wrote a marvelous book that became a bestseller and won both the Whitbread Book of the Year and Whitbread Novel awards. It was said that Mark Haddon himself exclaimed, “Who on Earth would want to read about a fifteen-year-old boy with a disability?,” while he was making this book. Little did he know that it was exactly the fifteen-year-old boy with a disability that made his book stand out, win awards and become a bestseller. The book is called, “The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time and the boy is Christopher.”

Christopher is an autistic-savant. He can name all the countries in the world and their capitals. He has a photographic memory and a genius in math and science. Despite of his unusual intelligence, he cannot imagine, understand figures of speech and relate to jokes. He also does not like places with a lot of people and people touching him. People who are autistic-savants exhibit both characteristics common among those with autism and those with Savant Syndrome. Autism is one developmental disorder among the group of Autism Spectrum Disorders. This condition is mainly characterized by impairment in socialization, imagination and communication. Savant Syndrome is characterized by very low general intelligence but extraordinary narrow intelligence usually in the fields of mathematics, music, art and memorization.

In the story, Christopher’s parents are separated. His mother decided to leave Christopher and his father because she cannot cope anymore with the demands of having an autistic child. Parents who take care of special children such as those with autism may probably have a higher stress level compared to most parents. This is mainly because their children have special demands, unusual behaviors and different abilities compared to other kids of the same age. These children will most likely find it difficult to communicate, thus, resulting to unusual reactions. An example of this is when an autistic child cries for no apparent reason and begins hitting himself or herself. Most likely, something has caused him or her to feel upset but cannot convey what it is because he or she does not know how. Some autistic children with sensory integration problems may either be hypersensitive or hyposensitive to touch, pressure, movement and sound. They will show certain behaviors that are sometimes difficult to understand such as avoidance of certain types of food and drinks, pinching or hitting, repetitive movements and screaming. Some of them can also exhibit strong adherence to certain routines and fear of new places or people. To accommodate the needs and cope with the behaviors of these children is not easy and, therefore, can result to a lot of stress.

Autism can greatly limit a child’s world. They thrive in security and anything they perceive as a threat to their security should be avoided. However, a lot of factors, situations and demands of society make them insecure and being forced to deal with these makes them very anxious most of the time. Unconsciously and unintentionally, children with autism have a constant feeling of anxiety to anything that is new or foreign to their understanding. Just like in the book, when Christopher had to go beyond the area of the town that is familiar with him, he felt physically sick and afraid. Unlike most children, those with autism cannot easily adapt to new environment or situations. The process of learning to understand and accept what is previously unknown to them results to a higher level of anxiety.


Despite what seems to be a difficult task of adapting and coping with autistic children, a lot has already been studied and published regarding proper management that will not only lessen the children’s anxiety but also their parents’ stress. Certain methods such as Cognitive Behavior Modification, Behavior Modification Techniques and Environmental Modification Techniques had been proven effective in changing the inappropriate behaviors and improving the learning skills of children with autism. Some, having compounding conditions other than autism, may need additional treatment as advised by the doctors. Autistic children who also have manic depression due to their unhappiness with being involuntarily trapped in their self-protecting behaviors may need more therapy than what was mentioned earlier. Consulting a psychiatrist is highly advisable in this situation and other medications may be prescribed.

Christopher’s story ended with him being able to overcome challenges that have caused him too much anxiety and his mother deciding to return to take care of him. Just like in this fictional novel, the same can be achieved in real life in terms of dealing with stress and anxiety among families who need to cope with the condition. Through proper management, medication or treatment, stress and anxiety among parents and autistic children can be addressed effectively.

Chicken used at fast-food chains is sometimes injected with a salty brine to keep it moist, which jacks up the sodium content. If your sandwich has bacon and cheese on it as well, you might end up with more calories than a burger.
Here are a few other questionable swaps:
  • Ground turkey for ground beef: Ground turkey often contains dark meat, which is high in saturated fat. To get lean turkey, make sure its ground turkey breast.
  • Turkey bacon for pork bacon: When it comes to bacon, read the labels. Pork and turkey both have fatty and lean options.
Counting calories and skipping snacks
If you're counting calories to lose weight, it may seem logical to cut out snacks to reduce your daily calorie intake. What this actually does is increase your hunger and fatigue during the long break between lunch and dinner. While it is good to cut out unhealthy, processed snacks, the act of snacking is still important. Choose nuts to keep you full longer or fruit for low calories.
Another time that you don't want to cut out snacking is before heading to the gym. While you shouldn't fill your stomach, eating a 100 to 200 calorie snack 30 minutes beforehand will give you the extra boost of energy you need to have a productive workout and burn more calories. You've been trying to add more vegetables to your diet, so you've been boiling a few servings each night to have with dinner. Whats the problem? Unfortunately, many of the vitamins seep out into the water and get dumped down the drain. To cook your vegetables but still retain the nutrients, opt for steaming or even microwaving instead.
Another practice that will lose you nutrients is stocking up on fruits and vegetables and using them for a week or more. As soon as a vegetable is harvested, the nutrients in it begin to deteriorate. Spinach loses 50 percent of its folate in just one week. Here's what you can do:
  • Make a few trips to the grocery store throughout the week instead of one at the beginning.
  • Buy local to reduce transit time after harvesting.
  • Buy frozen foods, which are often flash frozen a few hours after harvesting.

6.  If you aren't consuming enough dairy products,
go with calcium fortified orange juice instead.

7.  Go for whole grain breads, cereals, and rolls.

8.  Give cantaloupe a try.  With just 95 calories,
half of the melon will provide more than a day's
supply of Vitamin C and beta carotene.

9.  Don't be tricked into buying yogurt covered
by nuts or raisins, as the coating is normally
made of sugar and partially hydrogenated oils.

10.  Get some of the low fat treats, such as
pretzels, ginger snaps, and angel food cake.

you'll avoid the bad foods and get those that you
